I was looking through this forum and found this section for posting about new technology. I recently seen a hybrid solutions to PTZ cameras. Chinese manufactures are making cameras with a fixed lens that can pan and tilt. There is no zoom, but what they did is make a discount version of the PTZ technology. Turns out most customers I talk to just do not have the big bucks to outfit a 4-16 channel surveillance system and naturally this was a cheaper solution for small, medium, and high commercial and industrial companies.
The technology is new in it's own way. These PT cameras allow customers to fit cameras into situations where they don't really need to zoom. They have some PT cameras with 3.6mm lens that gives the end-user the ability to pan left and right to cover new or developing situations. It's best feature is the ability to adapt a situation that may be out of the FOV of the camera. I know I can speak for most of us by saying, what you originally shoot for is always where the activity never develops. But this cool and hybrid solution for CCTV applications that need simple, cheap and effective.
There are not many sites selling these cameras, but I deal with customers everyday that have bought the wrong cameras for their application and now are so frustrated because they cannot adapt well to the vast demands of their security.
